I Don't Need This Pressure On - SPANDAU BALLET

"Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On)" is a song by the English new wave band Spandau Ballet, released on 10 July 1981 as the first single from their second album, Diamond. The band's guitarist/songwriter, Gary Kemp, wanted to pay homage to the latest London hotspot, Le Beat Route, by emulating the funk music that was popular there and even using the club as the location for the music video, all in order to show that the band was still part of the trendy Soho scene. Except for the remix of the song from the album's box set, "Chant No. 1" received good reviews, and the 7-inch single became their third top ten hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.

After a hiatus of almost 20 years, 2009 saw the triumphant return of SPANDAU BALLET, one of the UK's most successful pop bands. Filmed during their sell out concerts at London's O2 Arena, Tony, John, Gary, Martin and Steve return with a vengeance in The Reformation Tour that brought their loyal fans stomping to their feet.

Instinction - SPANDAU BALLET

"Instinction" is a song by Spandau Ballet whose original version was included on their second album Diamond as produced by Richard James Burgess. The song was written by band guitarist/songwriter Gary Kemp. A remix by Trevor Horn was released on 2 April 1982 as the last single from the album and reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. This new version received good reviews but constituted a shift into pop music that did not interest the patrons of trendy London nightclubs that Spandau Ballet originally intended to represent. The band tried continuing their work with Horn on the songs for their next album but came to an impasse with him and moved on to a successful relationship with producers Steve Jolley and Tony Swain.

After a hiatus of almost 20 years, 2009 saw the triumphant return of SPANDAU BALLET, one of the UK's most successful pop bands. Life is the sixth studio album by British band Culture Club, credited to "Boy George and Culture Club". It was released on 26 October 2018 through BMG. It was Culture Club's first studio album since 1999's Don't Mind If I Do. Prior to the album, the song "Let Somebody Love You" was released as a digital single and video. The title track was released as lead single, followed by a limited edition issue of "Runaway Train" which was re-recorded as a duet with Gladys Knight and released for Record Store Day 2019. Will Hodgkinson of The Times said that "Now the band's name has had Boy George's stuck in front of it, which demeans the whole thing somewhat", but called the album "pretty solid". "Let Somebody Love You" goes back to Culture Club's trademark light-hearted reggae, and the stomping soul and soaring strings of "Runaway Train" and "Life" evoke power and passion", but still Will rated the album three stars out of five.

You've Got A Friend - JAMES TAYLOR / CAROLE KING

"You've Got a Friend" is a 1971 song written by American singer-songwriter Carole King. It was first recorded by King and included on her second studio album, Tapestry (1971).

Another well-known version is by James Taylor from his album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. His was released as a single in 1971, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number four on the UK Singles Chart. The two versions were recorded simultaneously in 1971 with shared musicians.

"You've Got a Friend" was written by Carole King during the January 1971 recording sessions for her own album Tapestry and James Taylor's album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. King has stated that "the song was as close to pure inspiration as I've ever experienced. The song wrote itself. It was written by something outside myself, through me."

According to Taylor, King told him that the song was a response to a line in Taylor's earlier song "Fire and Rain" that "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend." King's album was recorded in an overlap with Taylor's, and Taylor and Danny Kortchmar perform on both versions of the song.

Live at the Troubadour is a live album by Carole King and James Taylor released in 2010. The album was recorded at The Troubadour in West Hollywood in November 2007 to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary. It was also the first venue that King and Taylor played together in November 1970.

A contemporary pop song with R&B and soul influences, it features a prominent saxophone riff composed by Michael and played by Steve Gregory. I Can't Make You Love Me - GEORGE MICHAEL

"I Can't Make You Love Me" was written by Nashville writers Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, who were well-noted for their successes in the country music arena. The song was rewritten many times before being finalized, months later." We wrote, mostly every week, in Mike's basement," Shamblin told Peter Cooper in an interview with the Nashville Tennessean."

And we'd worked on this song for more than six months.  One day, he said, 'Come up to the living room,' where his piano was. He sat down and started playing this melody, and it was one of the most moving pieces of music I'd heard. I mean, it hit me in a hard way. Instantly, I knew it was the best thing I'd ever been a part of."

"Older" is a song by English singer-songwriter George Michael, released as the fourth single from his third album, Older (1996). It was also released as an EP under the name The Older EP.

VIDEO HOT TRACKS
Fire And Rain - JAMES TAYLOR

"Fire and Rain" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter James Taylor, released in August 1970 by Warner Bros. Records as the second single from Taylor's second studio album, Sweet Baby James. The song follows Taylor's reaction to the suicide of Suzanne Schnerr, a childhood friend, and his experiences with drug addiction and fame.

In that same account, Taylor said he had been in a deep depression after the failure of his new band the Flying Machine to coalesce (the lyric "Sweet dreams and Flying Machines in pieces on the ground"; the reference is to the name of the band rather than a fatal plane crash, as was long rumored). Taylor completed writing the song while in rehab.

After its release, "Fire and Rain" peaked at number two on RPM's Canada Top Singles chart and at Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carole King played piano on the song. Drummer Russ Kunkel used brushes rather than sticks on his drum kit, and Bobby West played double bass in place of a bass guitar to "underscore the melancholy on the song".

Live at the Troubadour is a live album by Carole King and James Taylor released in 2010. The album was recorded at The Troubadour in West Hollywood in November 2007 to celebrate the venue's 50th anniversary. It was also the first venue that King and Taylor played together in November 1970.

The lyrics express longing for a lover who is far away. But Allmusic critic Bill Janovitz notes that while the lyrics start by focusing on the physical distance between the lovers, the lyrics use that as a jumping-off point to explore emotional distance between lovers as well.

"Church of the Poison Mind" is a 1983 hit single by the British new wave band Culture Club. It was released as the lead single from their second, and most successful, album Colour by Numbers. The song reached #2 in the United Kingdom, being kept out of the top spot by David Bowie's "Let's Dance". It was also the band's fourth Top 10 hit in Canada and the United States. In America, it was still climbing the charts when "Karma Chameleon" was released as a single. This prompted Epic Records to release "Karma" ahead of schedule. "Church of the Poison Mind" actually reached its peak position the same week "Karma Chameleon" debuted on the US charts. In many countries its B-side was the heavily percussive street song "Man Shake" and in some others, such as the United States, it was the song "Mystery Boy". Both songs were on the 12-inch single in many countries, except Canada, where it was issued with an extended version of previous hit "I'll Tumble 4 Ya".

The film, featuring a cast of Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, Yvonne Elliman, Barry Dennen, Bob Bingham, Larry Marshall, Josh Mostel, Kurt Yaghjian and Philip Toubus, centers on the conflict between Judas and Jesus during the week of the crucifixion of Jesus.

Jesus Christ Superstar premiered at the Uptown Theater in Washington D.C. on June 26, 1973, and was released theatrically in the United States on August 15, 1973. Neeley, Anderson, and Elliman were nominated for Golden Globe Awards in 1974, for their portrayals of Jesus, Judas, and Mary Magdalene, respectively.

The soundtrack for the film was released on vinyl by MCA Records in 1973. It was re-released on CD in 1993 and reissued in 1998 for its 25th anniversary. It must be pointed out that the soundtrack for the film is a new recording, different from the 1970 album, despite the fact that some performers are the same.

Sirius / Eye In The Sky - ALAN PARSONS PROJECT

"Eye In The Sky" is a pop-rock song by British rock band the Alan Parsons Project, released as a single from their sixth studio album, Eye in the Sky (1982), in May 1982.

It entered the US Billboard charts on 3 July and hit No. 3 in October 1982, No. 1 in both Canada and Spain, and No. 6 in New Zealand, becoming their most successful release. The instrumental piece entitled "Sirius" segues into "Eye in the Sky" on the original recording.

On the original recording, the 1:54 minute instrumental piece entitled "Sirius" immediately precedes, and segues into, "Eye in the Sky". On the single release, "Eye in the Sky" appears on its own, with "Sirius" edited out; that was the version usually played on pop radio at the time.

However, album-oriented rock and classic rock stations now almost always include the "Sirius" intro. Current live performances of the band now includes Sirius as the intro for the song Eye In The Sky.

It's Not Too Late - PHIL COLLINS

"It's Not Too Late" is another sleeper Phil Collins hit that never made it to the Top 40 Charts. It comes from the same album Testify which also produced another of Phil's most popular hit "Can't Stop Loving You".

The song carries an inspiring message that encourages one to do whatever he/she needs to do, that it's never too late to go and fulfill that longing of achieving one's dreams. Although for the moment, one can feel stuck at a certain point in time, the restlessness inside will push one to go beyond and do what needs to be done.

Phil Collins Live at Montreux was filmed in high definition at the 2004 Festival and captures his stunning performance of all his best known hits from his solo career. This combination of all his classic songs coupled with the rarely seen big band material shows the expansive musical genres that Phil has covered in his musical career which defines him as one of the most versatile hitmaker in the history of popular music.

LAND OF CONFUSION - GENESIS

VIDEO HOT TRACKS
Land Of Confusion - GENESIS

Genesis is an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The band's most commercially successful line-up consists of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer / singer Phil Collins. The 1970s line-up featuring singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett was among the pioneers of progressive rock.

Phil Collins took over as lead singer, and the group released A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering (both 1976) with continued success. Hackett left Genesis in 1977, reducing the band to Banks, Rutherford, and Collins.

Their ninth studio album, And Then There Were Three (1978), contained the band's first major hit "Follow You Follow Me". Their next five albums – Duke (1980), Abacab (1981), Genesis (1983), Invisible Touch (1986) and We Can't Dance (1991) – were also successful.

Phil Collins left Genesis in 1996, and Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford replaced him with Ray Wilson, who appeared on their final album Calling All Stations (1997). The commercial failure of the album led to a group hiatus. Banks, Rutherford and Collins reunited for the Turn It On Again Tour in 2007, and again in the coming 2021 for The Last Domino? Tour.

In January 31, 1987, Land of Confusion had managed to peak at the Number 4 position on Billboard Hot 100.
